Answer: Impedance relies on the principle of increased resistance that occurs when a blood cell with poor conductivity passes through an electrical field. The number of pulses indicates the
count, and the height of the pulses indicates the relative volume of each cell passing through the photodetector. Instruments that use this method are Coulter  Gen-S, Coulter  LH series, Sysmex XE-2100TM, and Abbott CELL-DYN Sapphire .
