Answer to Question 1

Answer: C

The client who is HIV-positive would have a suppressed immune system and would experience symptoms of fatigue and opportunistic infections such as oral thrush. The client with HIV would be anemic and anorexic. The client would have a decrease in blood pressure, and no ankle edema. Shortness of breath and frequent urination do not indicate a need to retest for HIV.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: D

Women who use heroin place the fetus at an increased risk for developing intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). Congenital anomalies often occur with the use of lithium during pregnancy. Diabetes is an endocrine disorder that is unrelated to drug use and abuse. Abruptio placentae is a condition the mother can experience and is seen more commonly with cocaine and crack use.
