Answer to Question 1

Answer: C

Systemic diseases are often the cause of peripheral neuropathy. Damage from disease processes, such as metabolic and endocrine disorders, affects the body's ability to process waste products and utilize nutrients. At least half of all people with diabetes develop some type of neuropathy. The client's complaint of cold and numb feet and hands cannot be directly linked to a low blood glucose level or a high blood glucose level. Pancreatitis is not directly linked to peripheral neuropathy.

Answer: A

A diet high in antioxidantssuch as fish; green, leafy vegetables; copper; and zinchas been shown to slow the progression of the disorder. Low-fat diets, high-carbohydrate diets, and low-protein diets do not affect the progression of macular degeneration.
