Hepatitis A virus is transmitted through enteric routes and is usually the result of eating food that was contaminated with the virus. Hepatitis B virus is transmitted parenterally, sexually, or perinatally. Hepatitis C virus is transmitted via blood and blood products, parenterally, and through other unknown factors. Hepatitis B, C, and D viruses can be transmitted parentally and the client may be infected while injecting illegal drugs.
