The mother of a 6-month-old asks if she has to start the immunizations for HIB over as she is 2 months late for the second dose. The nurse's response is based on the knowledge that:
 
  a. If the inoculations are more than 21 days late, the series will have to be restarted
  b. The series will have to be restarted when the child is 12 months old
  c. The series of DTaP will have to be finished before the HIB can be restarted
  d. The series can continue now with the second dose; there is no need to restart the series

Question 2

Identify the child that is demonstrating acrocyanosis.
 
  1. A newborn shows slow capillary refill.
   2. A newborn's hands are blue following delivery.
   3. A newborn with a fever has red hands.
   4. A newborn with a lack of oxygen has blue hands.

A delay or interruption in a vaccination series does not interfere with final immunity. Restarting any series is not necessary.

2. The vasoconstriction after birth is a cause of acrocyanosis
3. A newborn with a fever will not demonstrate acrocyanosis.
4. Lack of oxygen will cause central cyanosis.
