Answer to Question 1

Type I error () is generally specified at the outset as a desired significance level (also = ) or confidence level (= 1). It signifies the probability of rejecting a true null hypothesis that is considered acceptable. The smaller  is set, the larger the probability of a Type II error (), which is the probability of failing to reject a false null hypothesis. The probability of rejecting a false null hypothesis (1) is called the power of the test.
