The most important factors leading to social change are technology (the combination of knowledge and hardware that is used to achieve practical goals); population (changes in population size and composition); the natural environment (interaction between humans and their physical environment); revolution (the violent toppling of a political regime); and ideas (which can promote or retard social change).
