Answer to Question 1

Broad-line vendors offer a wide variety of many products. Specialty-line vendors offer deep selections of few products. Advantages of broad-line vendors include reduced per-unit costs and decreased costs of purchasing and accounting. Potential disadvantages include a lack of detailed product knowledge.

Specialty-line vendors provide access to products that may not be available elsewhere. As more specialty-line vendors are used, additional purchasing time and costs will be incurred.

Buyer's clubs allow buyers to shop as frequently as they like. Some clubs assemble orders in advance of arrival and may provide delivery.

Cooperative purchasing occurs when multiple buyers agree on quality specifications, combine orders, and submit them to approved vendors. The vendor delivers products to each location.

Locally sourced products provide a purchasing alternative that may result in fresher products or better quality. Locally sourced products can often be purchased cost-effectively, and they support the local economy. Many customers appreciate locally sourced products, and purchasing locally sourced products can reduce transportation costs, pollution, and excess packaging.
