You have encountered a patient who is approximately one mile from the road where you parked your ambulance. The patient was cross-country skiing and became disoriented in the dark and has been in a crude shelter all night. Examination reveals a moderately hypothermic patient who is alert and oriented. His feet are white and hard to palpation with decreased sensation. All of the following are true EXCEPT:
