Answer to Question 1

A diverse group may be able to find better solutions because of divergent thinking processes. Diversity minimizes groupthink (whereby groups agree not to disagree). The presence of team members who view the problem differently may stimulate others in the team to discover novel approaches that they would not have considered, thereby leading to better decisions. Diverse group members may also learn from, emulate, and internalize the different strengths of other team members which allows the team to conceptualize problems in a more comprehensive manner, avoiding simplistic solutions that may prove to be unsatisfactory.
