Answer to Question 1

The four common sources of information used by supervisors to measure actual performance are personal observation, statistical reports, oral reports, and written reports.

Personal observation provides firsthand, intimate knowledge of the actual activity. Statistical reports are measuring devices including computer outputs, graphs, bar charts, and numerical displays of any form. Oral reports can acquire information through conferences, meetings, and one-to-one conversations. Written reports offer greater comprehensiveness and conciseness than is typically found in oral reports. They are also easier to catalogue and reference.
