Answer to Question 1

4
Explanation: 1. These statements suggest a lack of trust and confidence in the abilities of the staff. Not having
time is incorrect because it is the responsibility of the supervisor to develop the staff. Failing to
delegate is the time waster. The redefinition of the nursing supervisors job description is
incorrect because an effective managers role is to develop staff in such roles as a delegate. The
process is too time consuming is incorrect because that time invested in developing staff today
is later repaid many times over.

Answer to Question 2

Rationale 1: When employees feel they are making a real contribution they take greater ownership in their work.
Rationale 2: Preventing termination is not the reason this strategy is effective.

Rationale 4: Many nurses are very motivated even though they may not have as much responsibility as others.
Rationale 5: Greater responsibilities often change the flavor of the job so that the nurse enjoys it more.
