The following scatter diagram, where zero represents a
 
  country with no ethnic diversity and 1.0 represents extreme ethnic diversity, shows that:
  a. as ethnic diversity increases, infant mortality tends to decrease.
  b. as ethnic diversity increases, infant mortality tends to stabilize.
