Draw a diagram that represents a terminal button and postsynaptic neuron. Indicate in this diagram at least eight ways that drugs can affect synaptic transmission and give an example of each.

Answer: This would involve the student reproducing Fig 4.4 on page 83.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Nicotinic receptors are ionotropic and are located on muscle fibers and in the brain. Muscarinic receptors are metabotropic and are located only in the brain. ACh is an agonist for both receptors. Curare blocks nicotinic receptors, while atropine blocks muscarinic receptors.
