ADLs are the ability to take care of basic personal needs. Eating, dressing, and moving are basic. Cooking requires a greater level of independence.

Even minimal physical activity can help prevent or manage diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, cardiovascular (circulatory) problems, breathing disorders, and musculoskeletal disorders such as arthritis.
