External forces such as pollution, noise, natural disasters, exposure to toxic chemicals, and threats to your safety can cause or intensify stress.

Answer to Question 2

For all higher primates, perception (one's way of evaluating, understanding, and interpreting a situation) is a critical factor because it influences how you evaluate and react to stress.
