1. Adequate sleep supports a healthy metabolism, so calories are burned and nutrients are used properly.
2. Those who sleep less tend to eat more than those who get adequate sleep.
3. Those who sleep less tend to eat more high-fat, high-protein foods.
4. Those who sleep less tend to exercise less.
5. Inadequate sleep is associated with an increased level of stress, and stress in turn is linked to increased body weight.
