Answer: Polypharmacy is the simultaneous use of several prescription medications that can interact in dangerous ways. Older adults are especially vulnerable to polypharmacy because they often have several medical problems for which they see different doctors, each prescribing drugs, often without knowing what else the patient is taking.

Answer: She has the following three uncontrollable risk factors: being postmenopausal, being an Asian female, and being small-framed. The following behaviors are within her control: to consume 1,200 mg. of calcium daily, along with vitamin D; to do weight-bearing exercise regularly; and to avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.
