Answer to Question 1

Answer: Predisposing factors are the physical, mental, emotional, and environmental factors that shape someone's current health-related behavior. They can include knowledge of health requirements and processes, beliefs one might hold regarding the validity of certain strategies (vitamins, carb-free dieting), and attitudes relating to behavior change (e.g. a family member dying from colorectal cancer might prompt specific consideration of diet and amount of exercise). Values learned and brought forward from childhood tend to shape one's attitudes and viewpoints regarding health issues. Age, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and family background are also strong predisposing factors that influence how we perceive how health is defined and how much effort is devoted towards achieving wellness.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: You should evaluate the source carefully. The manufacturer will have a financial investment in the product and is probably not the best resource to use. Look for government, nonprofit, or educational sites that may have less biased information about the product. Trace information presented back to its source. Look for published research findings about the product and its uses. Look for the most relevant and up-to-date information.
