Answer to Question 1

The dominant climatic factor in South Asia is the monsoon, which is the distinct seasonal change of wind direction that corresponds to wet and dry periods. In the winter months, the winds originate over the land, which has little water. As a result, the winter is dry. In the summer months, the monsoon winds orginate over the ocean, providing ample moisture for large amounts of rainfall blown inland. Thus, the summer monsoon is wet.
