Diabetic neuropathy is the condition of swelling of axons or nerve cells. Thus, the nurse should monitor for lack of sensation due to nerve cell damage. The nurse need not monitor for weight gain, temperature elevation, or somnolence (extreme sleepiness), because these are not problems associated with diabetic neuropathy.
