Several of the nurse's coworkers constantly complain about everything and they try to get the nurse to join them.
 
  The nurse has always been a happy and positive person and wants to enjoy his time at work, especially since this is his first job. What should be an appropriate first step in the situation?
  A) Let the complainers know that he will work with them but that he doesn't wish to join them in complaining.

This is the nurse's first job and leaving it would have a negative impact on the nurse and nurse's rsum. Being assertive should precede the involvement of a manager. A nursing organization would be unlikely to help.

Collective bargaining is used to represent the rights of the employees as a whole within the union, and in this situation, only one employee is having the work-related dispute. The means to communicate an issue to the union is to file a grievance with the employer, and the union can help, if the nurse calls the union representative for assistance. The disciplinary procedure is between an employer and the employee and is not the case with the situation because the nurse worked all required shifts, but the employer asked for more shifts than originally agreed upon. Arbitration is used to settle a grievance, if the employer and employee cannot resolve the conflict on their own, so it is too early to bring in arbitration.
