Answer to Question 1

Ans: C
Feedback:
Because much of our communication is nonverbal, the nurse can provide reassurance and comfort without speaking. A smile and a gentle touch will go a long way toward comforting those who do not understand the nurse's spoken language. An interpreter may not be necessary and the nurse should not walk away. Asking a question in a language a client does not understand would only be more upsetting.

Answer to Question 2

Ans: D
Feedback:
Research verifies that understanding oneself is the first step in being able to understand others. Identifying differences does not result in respecting differences and knowing people with differences does not result in respecting them. Studying differences does not necessarily lead to accepting differences.
