Answer to Question 1

The nation had to be built. The people needed security and shelter. They needed land cleared for farming. In the
real world of humans, when the choice is between survival in the short term and conservation of natural resources,
survival always wins. In this sense, the practices of early Americans were right because they led to our industrial and
agricultural greatness as a nation and served to promote the survival of its people. However, these practices were
also wrong. Little thought was given to the future and as a result, natural resources started to become depleted

Answer to Question 2

With a small population and a vast land area, natural resources seemed limitless. There seemed to be no reason
to conserve something that was so plentiful. Also, some things that we consider resources now were regarded as
problemsexamples include dense forests and marshes.
