What are hydrating gel granules, and what is their purpose in the potting medium?

Hydrating gels are synthetic acrylic copolymers granules that absorb more than 100 times their weight in water. Their purpose is to improve the water-holding capacity of the medium.

Answer to Question 2

Leach the medium by flushing the medium with water to dissolve away the excess fertilizer. Throw out the leaching water.
