Answer to Question 1

ANS: A, B, D, E
When the patient is being treated with an antibiotic regimen, he or she should be instructed re-garding foods that interfere with antibiotic absorption, the need for adequate hydration, the avoidance of sun when taking tetracyclines and sulfonamides, the necessity for a form of birth control in addition to hormonal contraceptives, and signs and symptoms to report to his or her primary health provider.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: A
The alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), alkaline phosphatase, amylase, bilirubin, creatine phosphokinase, cholesterol, glucose, and uric acid levels should be obtained before initiating therapy and then on a regular basis. A complete blood count (CBC) and comprehensive metabolic panel usually are sufficient to monitor these parameters.
