Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibacterial drug. These drugs are toxic to the kidneys (neph-rotoxic). A decrease of urine output by 1000 mL in a 24-hour time period is cause for concern about kidney function. The drug may need to be stopped or the dosage decreased.
