Answer to Question 1

A
Resistance to amikacin is uncommon at this point; to minimize the emergence of amika-cin-resistant bacteria, this drug is reserved for infections in which resistance to other aminogly-cosides has developed. Amikacin is the least susceptible to inactivation by bacterial enzymes. Amikacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. All aminoglycosides are ototoxic and nephrotoxic.

Answer to Question 2

A
Smallpox has been eradicated as an endemic disease but it remains a threat because so many people are un-immunized. The virus is still available in laboratories throughout the world. Anth-rax is not spread from person to person. Pneumonic plague is spread from person to person. Tu-laremia would be spread by terrorists as an aerosol.
