D. To irrigate deep wound with very small opening, attach soft angiocatheter to filled irrigating syringe; catheter permits direct flow of irrigant into wound.
A. Position comfortably to permit gravitational flow of irrigating solution through wound and into collection receptacle.
B. Hold syringe tip 2.5 cm (1 inch) above upper end of wound and over area being cleansed; this prevents syringe contamination.
C. Wound cleansing and irrigation is accomplished using sterile technique (surgical wounds) or clean technique (some chronic wounds).
