ANS: Sympathetic vibration is the phenomenon whereby strings will vibrate
very softly without being played directly as a result of a corresponding pitch being
played.



Answer to Question 2

ANS: The sarod is a plucked lute with no frets, four melodic strings, two drone
strings, and about 15 sympathetic strings. The body of the instrument is covered in skin,
and the fingerboard is covered with a sheet of metal. The player uses the nails of the left
hand to press the strings down while using a plectrum in the right hand to strike the
strings.
