A sub-contractor reports that the approved material is no longer in production. The sub-contractor then brings in data claiming the superiority of a new substitute product. The resident project representative should:
 
  A. approve the changes and carefully file the data.
   B. ask the owner if it will be acceptable.
   C. leave the decision to the design engineer of record.
   D. refer the decision to the Superintendent.
   E. refer the matter to the construction manager

The Construction Specification Institute (CSI) Master Format is included in the CSI Manual of Practice (2008) and the CSI Master Format (2004) and it is a process that is used to organize specifications. The CSI Master Format divides projects into sixteen divisions and each item in a project is included under one of the sixteen divisions. Each of the sixteen divisions is divided into three subdivisions that are called 1) Broadscope, 2) Mediumscope, and 3) Narrowscope.
