Answer to Question 1

Using Bowes and Church's Food Values of Portions Commonly Used1 to determine the Na content of the foods Mr. G ate, an estimate of 4800 mg of Na would be realistic. This does not include the Na in salt added to cooked food or the Na found naturally in the moderate- and low-Na foods; nor does it include the Na added as seasoning. The total Na consumption will also depend on the serving size, which was not recorded for many of the foods. Therefore, a good estimate would probably be from 6 to 8 g of Na intake per day.

Answer to Question 2

Kcals could be from 3000 up depending on size of servings. Protein could be over 100 g, depending on the serving size. This would be too much kcals and protein. I do not look for specific numbers here, but for gross amounts to see if the students can tell if someone is slightly, moderately, or greatly overeating, etc.
