Answer to Question 1

My choice would be a di- and tripeptide formula for the reasons discussed above or one that has the addition of glutamine, arginine, and/or fish oils. Research indicates that these may be of some benefit to immunocompromised patients.

Answer to Question 2

Performing the appropriate tests to determine which of the above could be contributing to diarrhea and taking appropriate action. In the case of the depressed Ser Alb, I am a believer in the di- and tripeptide formulas. In most cases these can be absorbed across edematous guts and significantly decrease diarrhea.
