Answer to Question 1

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of symptoms that include abdominal obesity with a waist of 40 inches or more for men, 35 inches or more for women; high triglycerides: 150 mg/dL or more; low HDL cholesterol: below 40 mg/dL for men, below 50 for women; most people with the syndrome also have more small, dense LDL (very bad) cholesterol particles; high blood pressure: 130/85 or higher; frequently hypercoagulability is a problem; and insulin resistance.

Mrs. R has a waist of 42, elevated TG, low HDL, elevated LDL but the type of LDL is not known, elevated BP, and insulin resistance.

Answer to Question 2

Divorce, a child with ADD, suddenly having to work, returning to school, and finances.

Possible ways to change this stress would be to find time to relax and to find a way to unwind other than by drinking alcohol. She may have to take a lighter load at school, and/or work something out with her family to help with her child and with meals. It would be helpful if she could schedule her work hours. See if there is a counseling service at school, etc.
