Answer to Question 1

Pravastatin is an antihyperlipidemic, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor. A host of possible nutritional side effects are listed but nutritional side effects are not commonly a problem. HMG-CoA reductase is most active at night and can thus be most effectively reduced at this time.

Answer to Question 2

High-fat fast foods and fried foods: these have been eliminated in the past because they were believed to slow down digestion, causing a bloated feeling or heart burn.. They are not eliminated today unless they cause an individual a problem but GG should be advised to eat less of these foods for general health reasons, even if she did not have gastritis.

Coffee and chocolate: because of the caffeine content these should be eliminated. Caffeine causes additional HCl secretion.

Rum: Alcohol also causes HCl secretion.

Chocolate and alcohol: relaxes the cardiac sphincter and could cause regurgitation.
