BPD is broncopulmonary dysplasia, a severe form of lung disease associated with neonatal chronic lung disease. Risk factors include premature birth and immature lungs, oxygen toxicity, positive pressure ventilation, respiratory infection, vitamin A deficiency, 1-antiprotease deficiency, genetic predisposition, and persistent patent ductus arteriosus.
