List the diet principles Mrs. MG should follow and, based on the principles you list, prescribe an appropriate specific diet for Mrs. MG.

Question 2

Considering Mrs. MG's family medical history, weight history, and most recent set of lab values, what was the RD looking for with her line of questions about frequent urination, thirst, hunger etc.?

Answer to Question 1

Mrs. MG appears to have diabetes and should have a diet plan consistent with this disease. The first goal would be to attempt to obtain an IBW, as difficult as this would be with this lady. The diet principles would include: lower total calories, fat, saturated fat, and sugar. Assuming the new diabetic guidelines are being taught, the incorporation of some sweets with meals could be attempted.

Answer to Question 2

All are symptoms of diabetes.
