Answer to Question 1

There are different ways to look at this question. Feel free to use a different interpretation.
1 . Protein and calorie malnutrition would occur first as a result of the person not eating enough.
2 . Depending on the amount of total kcals and protein consumed, dehydration would likely occur next, possibly within days or slowly over a long period of time, depending on intake.
3 . Percent body fat and weight would start going down within the first week, depending on intake.
4 . Microcytic anemia would be evident within three months but depressed hgb and hct would be evident sooner, again depending on intake.

Answer to Question 2

Depletion of glycogen decreases endurance and could cause the dieter to be tired and lack energy in the initial stages. The lack of glucose stimulates gluconeogenesis and could result in protein catabolism, depending on total calories in the diet. Excessive fat breakdown results in ketone build-up and could result in ketosis. There are several places where you could place emphasis to direct this question.
