The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved use of a health claim stating the relation-ship between folic acid intake during pregnancy and decreased risk of neural tube defects in in-fants. They have also approved use of a health claim stating the relationship between calcium intake and decreased risk of osteoporosis, but this is not directly relevant to a pregnant women. The other two associations are not approved for health claims on food labels.
