U.S. consumers increasingly purchase organic fruits and vegetables for their use at home because they perceive these products to be healthier (though more expensive) alternatives to highly processed fruits, vegetables, dairy products and eggs.

Do you think this consumer trend will ultimately affect the products these consumers want to purchase when dining out? Explain your answer.

Answer to Question 1

There is no doubt that the dining out public increasingly considers both the origin of products and the way the products have been produced when making their food purchase decisions. Because this is true, restaurants are responding by increasingly offering more organic and locally grown products on their menus. While some students may consider this to be merely a fad, it should be pointed out that it is more likely that this is a dining trend that is here to stay.

Answer to Question 2

To protect the guest from being splashed with a hot beverage, place a service towel, or a clean folded napkin, between the guest and the hot beverage. The pot used for the refills would be in the right hand and the service towel in the left. This creates a barrier between the hot liquid and the guest.
