Answer to Question 1

Canadian

Answer to Question 2

Herzberg's two-factor theory emphasizes the roles of motivator factors and hygiene factors (also
known as maintenance factors). The factors that produce job satisfaction are called motivator
factors because they satisfy a team member's need for self-realization. According to the theory,
hygiene factors are important, but they are not motivators. Herzberg's hygiene factors are
company policy and administration, supervision, relationship with supervisor, relationship with
peers, working conditions, salary, and relationship with subordinates. His satisfaction factors are
opportunity for achievement, opportunity for recognition, the work itself, responsibility,
advancement, and personal growth. When hygiene factors deteriorate to a level below what a
team member considers acceptable, dissatisfaction results. However, removing the causes of
dissatisfaction does not create satisfaction and will not motivate performance. Herzberg believed
that the only way to motivate employees is through challenging work in which they can assume
responsibility.
