Answer to Question 1

No. Browning is one standard that does not occur in the microwave. Therefore, cakes, meats, and breads do not have the same appearance as when prepared in an oven. In addition, microwave cooking is generally inappropriate for meat products, as there is inadequate time to solublize the connective tissue and tenderize the meat.

Answer to Question 2

Microwave cooking containers should not get hot. If the container gets hot, this is an indicator that this is not a suitable microwave cooking container. Appropriate containers include microwave-safe ceramic, oven-proof glass, or microwavable hard plastic dishes for long cooking periods. Wax paper, paper plates, or towels are suitable for shorter heating periods. Inappropriate microwave cooking materials include foil, metal (metal-rim dishes or cookware), fragile glass, plastic tubs, and Styrofoam.
