Answer to Question 1

Most Filipinos adhere to the concept of bahala na, meaning that life is controlled by the will of God and by supernatural forces. If a person behaves properly, shows consideration of others and sensitivity in relationships, fulfills debts and obligations, shows gratitude, and avoids shame, he or she is rewarded with health in this life and eternal life after death. Many Filipinos believe that illness is a punishment for transgressions against God. Religious medals are worn for protection from evil.

In the Philippines health is maintained through the balance (timbering) of natural and supernatural elements. A person is thought to be predisposed to certain illnesses, and the timing of external events contributes to the development of disease. Unbalanced conditions, such as working too much, overeating, excessive drinking, inadequate diet or sleep, unhygienic conditions, infections, accidents, emotional stress (especially fright or anxiety), or loss of self-esteem, may increase a person's vulnerability, as do factors such as the season and the weather.

There can actually be a 25-hour time difference between certain locations in the world. The International Date Line passes between the islands of Samoa and American Samoa. It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. Daylight saving time is used in some islands, but not in others—further shifting the hours out of sync with natural time.

Fatal fungal infections may be able to resist newer antifungal drugs. Globally, fungal infections are often fatal due to the lack of access to multiple antifungals, which may be required to be utilized in combination. People who have myopia, or nearsightedness, are not able to see objects at a distance but only up close. It occurs when the cornea is either curved too steeply, the eye is too long, or both. This condition is progressive and worsens with time. More than 100 million people in the United States are nearsighted, but only 20% of those are born with the condition. Diet, eye exercise, drug therapy, and corrective lenses can all help manage nearsightedness.
