Answer to Question 1

Firstly, don't restrict calories to the extent that Gabby loses weight. Gabby still needs adequate nutrients such as essential fatty acids, vitamin D, and calcium from a variety of foods.
Limit Gabby's sweet treats and replace one or two of them with healthier treats such as fresh fruit.
Make sure that Gabby eats appropriate portions regularly. She should not feel deprived because she will have cravings and end up possibly eating more than she needs to maintain her weight.
Introduce Gabby to new fruits and vegetables to help increase her tastes for healthy foods. Make it a fun adventure that she will look forward to. Eating healthy is NOT punishment. Perhaps Gabby can select fruits or vegetables with her parents at the store.
