Answer to Question 1

Consider safety firstsome supplements can be toxic. Check with a health professional first. Think twice about chasing the latest headline. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. More may not be betterthis is almost always true when it comes to nutrition. Natural does not always mean safe, wholesome, or home-made.

Answer to Question 2

Unlike drugs, dietary supplements don't need preapproval by the FDA (or evidence of safety and effectiveness) before they are marketed. Labels can display health claims. Manufacturers and distributors are responsible for ensuring that their products are safe and their label claims are accurate and truthful. The FDA has the authority to take action against any dietary supplement believed to present a risk of illness or injury once it is on the market.
