Answer to Question 2

The pH of the stomach and the gastric emptying rate are two of the most important nutrition-related factors impacting drug dissolution. Medications may require an acidic environment for dissolution. Achlorhydria, which is decreased production of hydrochloric acid, occurs in aging as well as some medical conditions such as HIV and AIDS. Medications that could affect gastric acidity include H2 blockers, proton-pump inhibitors, and antacids. Gastric emptying rate influences the amount of time in which dissolution can occur; medications that affect gastric emptying time include prokinetics, such as metoclopramide.

People who have myopia, or nearsightedness, are not able to see objects at a distance but only up close. It occurs when the cornea is either curved too steeply, the eye is too long, or both. This condition is progressive and worsens with time. More than 100 million people in the United States are nearsighted, but only 20% of those are born with the condition. Diet, eye exercise, drug therapy, and corrective lenses can all help manage nearsightedness.
