Low-carbohydrate diets can trigger rapid weight loss, particularly after only a few days. Unfortunately, most of the weight loss is from muscle and glycogen rather than from fat. Long term, these diets deplete the body of necessary nutrients, causing more harm than the benefits gained from losing weight. Additionally, these diets are difficult to maintain in the long-term, and often result in rebounding weight gain.
