Recall JoAnn, who has featured in the beginning of this chapter. Can you explain how her basic diet, which consists mainly of dairy foods, legumes, salads, and fish, helps keep her bones healthy in terms of all the macro- and micronutrients they contain?

The food choices that Joann has made allow adequate amounts of vitamin D, protein, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium in her diet, all nutrients of great importance to keeping her bones strong and preventing further weakening of her spine.
