Answer to Question 1

Vitamin K deficiency is a life-threatening condition that results in a loss of the ability to form blood clots. If Muayyad were to avoid all foods containing vitamin K, he would become vitamin K deficient within 6-12 months. In addition, the frank vitamin K deficiency would alter bone strength, since it is a vitamin that catalyzes the carboxylation of some of the proteins necessary for bone and tooth formation.
