Answer to Question 1

Sales per cubic ft. Although sales per square ft is a good measure, cubic ft. includes the dimensions of the unit.

Answer to Question 2

None is better; it depends on the type of product and retailer. Each area of a store may be assessed in a different way. However most shelving units use linear feet and apparel store use square feet. Some retailers are contemplating changing to cubic feet because of the accuracy of including height, depth, and width.
